Five minutes later Karen collapsed on the stool next to Jon.
"Man, am I bushed. It's almost as though I've never done this before!"
She grinned at him innocently and poured herself a coffee.
Was she having him on? She knew all about the stone so maybe she was just kidding.
"Er, Karen does any of this seem strange to you? I mean the diner?"
He watched her closely for any signs that her total acceptance of the waitressing lifestyle was anything other than genuine.
However she just grinned ( and Jon noticed not for the first time, she had a lovely grin.) " Aw we're just having a boom day is all"
She slurped her hot coffee and looked at Jon. "What was it you wanted to talk about?"
"It's the rock Karen - none of this is how it should be! This is my living room for christs sake not a diner, I just wished there was food in the house!"
She stared intently at him for a second. "You're saying you made your house into a diner just cause you were hungry?"
Jon took the rock from his pocket, there seemed to be a faint swirl pattern embossed on it's surface.
"I didn't wish for that. The rock seems to be getting more and more tricky everytime I use it - a minute ago I think it tried to make me into a waitress named Shelley!"
Karen took the rock from him examining it closely.
"So what you're saying is the shitty day I'm having is just another example of this rocks playful nature?"
Jon looked at her. She seemed a little pissed off at the rock.
She took a deep breath. "You're saying that I've just broken my neck running backwards and forwards for hours getting felt up by truck drivers because you made a wish for a snack."
Jon didn't like the way this was going. "Er, Karen, can I have the rock back please, I've, er, just thought of something..."
Karen pulled the rock close to her chest, where perhaps Jon's eyes lingered for a few seconds longer than necessary.
"Men! All you ever think about is tits and ass. Well you know what Jon? I wish you WERE a waitress named Shelly, a gorgeous, ditzy, stacked, sixteen year old and then maybe after you've had a taste of the day I've just had, you wouldn't throw your wishes around so lightly."
I'll say one thing for Karen she does have a temper.
