"I wish," said Karyn, "that you have the same family you had before this whole set of wishes, and that you're rich because your grandfather left you a lot of money as well as the stone, not because the rest of your family is rich."
"Say, that's a good idea," said Shelley.
"I'm not finished. I wish I knew what wishes you made today.... ahh. I wish that you had something to eat in the house because there was food in the refrigerator, not because your house is a diner."
And the whole room changed around them, into something partly familiar, but too pink.
"It's my room!" said Shelley. "Almost."
"Almost?" said Karyn.
"Because it's still my room as Shelley. It's my room transformed into a girl's room. But it doesn't seem to be a rich girl's room."
"It can't be," replied Karyn. "You just became rich recently. You didn't have time to buy anything. Look, over there. That bag."
Shelley picked up the bag. It was from CD Multiverse and had around 20 CDs in it. "Hmm. I must have gotten the money and immediately bought a bag of CDs. It doesn't look like these are bands I'd like, though."
"But they're bands that Shelley likes. And didn't you say you wanted to be Shelley for a while?"
"It's fun to have such a gorgeous body right at my fingertips.... No, I didn't mean it that way! But I don't want it to be permanent. I'm sure there's a way to change back."
"Sure there is, Shelley. Just wish it. You became Shelley because you wished that you were in your own clothes. If you're Jon, you're still in your own clothes."
"It's that simple?"
"It has to be!"
"But then once I wish to be Jon I have to stay Jon, right?"
"No. Let me fix it for you. I wish that Shelley can change into Jon at will, and back again, and that every change alters reality so that everyone except us two thinks it was always like that."
"Hmm. Let me try...." Shelley closed her eyes, concentrated, and became Jon. Then he opened them again and looked around. "Whew. I'm back! And in my own room!" Noticing the CDs, he said, "Look, and the CDs changed into CDs that I'd really want to buy."
Jon concentrated, and transformed into Shelley--and so did the room and the CDs.
"Looks like it's working fine," said Shelley. "Maybe I should fix it so that Shelley has the same musical taste that I have, or has similar interests, so that I don't get culture shock every time I change to Shelley?" She took the rock from Karyn and considered it.
