Jon decided Karyn must have gone home. He had already wished for her not to be a waitress, so her remark about getting back to work was an obvious ploy.

But there was no reason Shelley needed to be a waitress, either, and no reason the house had to be a restaurant. He had turned the house into a restaurant by wishing there was something to eat. "I wish that this house is normal, that we had something to eat in this house because there are some sandwiches and Coke in the refrigerator, that Shelley is bringing some up here so we can eat lunch, and that she and Karyn know I made this wish."

The sound from downstairs had vanished. Jon left his room to see everything looking normal--no restaurant any more. Shelley was coming upstairs with a plate of sandwiches and a Coke bottle.

"Hi, Jon," she said. "Suddenly I was coming up the stairs with these."

"Yeah," said Jon. "I figured it would be easier on you if you didn't have to work. If you need money, you do have the wishing stone. I also figured we should have lunch together. You don't mind, do you?"

"Of course not," said Shelley. "Besides it is my room..."

"Sort of," said Jon. "I don't know what your room is like. You don't even know what your room is like, even."

"Maybe I can fix that," said Shelley. "I wish that my room was just like Jon's, except for the things that have to be different because I'm a girl in a different family." Nothing visible changed, of course. "And I wish for me and Jon to be transported there."

Things shimmered and Jon looked around. The room was almost like his own. Same color scheme, even the same butter stain on the math textbook--a few pictures were different, the clothes were different, and that was pretty much it.

Then Shelley pointed to a poster of a boy band on the wall. "Jon," she said, "do you think those boys are cute? We have them on both our walls, you know."

Jon looked at the picture and said "Well, umm... I guess if I was a girl I might date someone like them, but...."

"They're cute," said Shelley.

"Y... yeah," said Jon. It was, of course, true. Shelley knew him like he knew himself. "But I've never felt like kissing a boy before."

"But you never felt this way about a girl, either. Until now."

"We're..." Jon's family was tolerant, but it was still hard to say it. "Bisexual. That's it, right? There isn't such a big difference between you and me. We've had these feelings about both guys and girls..."

"... and if we didn't, we couldn't have each other..." said Shelley.

Jon and Shelley kissed each other again.
