Jon looked at the stone. "I just wish that Karyn would realize that I wouldn't mind her giving me some attention instead of those vapid jocks, and consider that it's hard on me being just friends with her while she goes out chasing boys because it makes me feel like I'm not good enough. That shouldn't be so bad. I'm not messing with her mind, just getting her to consider something."
A few seconds later, she came running back as fast as she could, out of breath. "Jon... Jon," she said, panting. "I just realized, that you wouldn't mind me giving you some attention instead of those vapid jocks, and then I considered that it's hard on you being just friends with me while I go out chasing boys because it makes you feel like you're not good enough. That's weird. And... awfully specific." She cast a suspicious eye at Jon.
"I'm sorry," Jon said.
"That's all right. I also just realized that isn't so bad, since you didn't mess with my mind, you just got me to consider something. Damn it Jon, that was part of it too, wasn't it."
"I'm sorry," he repeated.
"Well you were right, it's not too bad, a lesser guy would have abused the stone and removed my choice. It's just weird to realize the idea was communicated to me directly with the rock. But it's true? That's how you feel about me?"
"How could it not be?" he answered. "Did you think I was gay? It was inevitable. You're perfect. But if I'm just not good eno..." he was silenced by her kissing him. He almost started to suffocate over the next few seconds.
"Silly guy. You only needed to ask. Did you think I might say no? It was a sure thing the whole time, without any wishes needed."
Still best wish ever, Jon thought.
