The ceremony (if that's what you wanted to call it) didn't last very long and as it turned out, that might have been a bad thing for Jon.
Because when it was over and the mind image of Aomi was firmly in place within Jon's new female body, Jon himself was gone. There was a lot of truth to that so-called joke that Naka made about "killing" Jon. As it turned out, they did kill Jon ... in a way.
Aomi looked at her sister and then at Hoj. "What happened? Where am I?" she asked.
"Jon?" Naka asked, hesitantly.
"Jon? Who's Jon? Naka, it's me. Aomi. Your sister."
Naka and Hoj exchanged worried looks. They knew this might happen, that Jon could be lost within Aomi's psyche. But it was a risk that they were willing to take. The fate of humankind was at stake. They didn't even bother telling Jon about it, fearing that he wouldn't go along with their plans.
"Naka, tell me. What's going on?" Aomi asked.
