...a ring!

"So what does it do?" James asked the wizard.
"This is the Ring of Memories, my dear." The wizard said as he picked up the ring. "This ring has the ability to bestow the memories and personality of a different person, while making them completely forget who they were as long as the ring is on there finger...or until the time limit runs out, whichever comes first."
"Time limit?" James asked.
"Yes...see the way the ring works it that you first must hold it in your palm, then tell it who's memories you wish it to have and then you would tell it an amount of time that whomever wore it would have those memories. For instance you could tell it, James Marshall for 2 days, then if you gave the ring to someone, they would believe they were you for the next two days."
James suddenly started to see, in conjunction with the medallion, how useful the ring would be.
"But what if they took the ring off early." James asked.
"Well they would remember who they really were, but part of the spell makes them want to keep the ring on, so they won't just take it off, unless there is some reason that they would think it be necessary to take it off."
"Well, what if you wanted them to take early and they then don't want to."
"Clever girl." The wizard said looking at James. "The person who gave them the ring can asked them to take it off any time, someone else wouldn't be able to convince to, short of threatening there life to get it from them."
"And what about the time that is lost? If someone wore the ring for two days, what would they remember of that time and how would they react to that missing time?"
"The person who wore the ring would have no memories of the time when they were under its influence. And once they regained their true memories, now this is another part of the spell of course, as long as things were pretty much the same as they left it, they wouldn't really notice any change, even if several days had gone by, they would just think that they were being forgetful and had forgotten what they had done over the past few days."
"What do you mean if things are pretty much the same?" James asked.
"Well for instance, you wouldn't want the person to put the ring on at home at night and then when the time limit ended for them to be in Hawaii on the beach during the day! They would certainly notice something was wrong, but if you had someone put it on at work and when their memories returned they were out home or at a restaurant, then the spell would be strong enough this change to go unnoticed."
"Wow, that's amazing! But wait, if I told the ring to have my memories and gave it to someone, wouldn't they have my memory of giving them the ring?"
"No, you can tell the ring to exclude certain memories, for instance the existence of the ring...or of the medallion, and then you copy wouldn't know about these items."
James thought of the possibilities.
"Ok, I'll take it!"
James quickly paid the wizard and slipped the ring into Lisa's purse.
James thought of at least two ways he could use the ring right off. First he could give the ring to someone who he had used the medallion on and give them that bodies memories so they would believe that's who they were. Second he could give the ring to someone with his memories and with the medallion's aid there would be two of him. Heck he could take a vacation and make the other person do his job, in fact with the medallion he could go on a vacation as someone else. The possibilities were limitless.
