As soon as he saw it, Jon wanted to reach for the rock, but decided not to make a scene.
He definitely didn't want his mother to find out that he had a magic stone that granted wishes, she'd probably never let him use it again! From her surprise, his mom must have made a wish without knowing the rock would grant it, so Jon figured she didn't know it was special yet. He'd just wait unti she put it down and take it back discretely. Hopefully she won't make any stupid wishes in the meantime.
Speaking of wishes, Jon had to find out what his mother had changed about him! Problem was, he wanted to do this without letting on that he knew about the wish. This watching her carefully and subtly plying her for clues.
He was about to join Karyn on the soaf in his living room, when his mother called out to him, "Jon honey, go get your dirty clothes from your bedroom, I'm about to put some washing on."
"Okay mom," Jon replied and walked slowly towards the staircase. When he saw his mother was still holding the rock in one hand, he sighed and ran upstairs to pick up his clothes as quickly as he could.
Joan watched her son go upstairs. How could he not notice it? How did this happen? She was musing over this very thing earlier, did it have to do with that? But she was just joking around! She didn't really want her son to look like that! Besides, it was impossible! Karyn hasn't said anything either, does she see thnk it's normal too, or is she just keeping quiet?
"Karyn dear," Joan asked tentatively. She dropped the rock she was holding into the pocket of her apron and continued, "Have you noticed anything different about Jon lately?"
"I'm not sure," Karyn replied earnestly. "How recently do you mean?"
"Well, today actually. Does he look different today?"
"Oh, you must mean his new top! It looks really good on him, doesn't it?" Karyn gulped nervously - and Joan saw it!
She knows something! Joan thought. Karyn must know it's not right, but she doesn't want to say anything! Maybe she knows how it happen-
"Mom," Jon said, "here's my dirty stuff."
Jon presented a plastic basket full of crumpled clothing to his mother. Distractedly, Joan gripped the basket's handles but didn't take it from her son's grasp immediately. Jon noticed she wasn't holding the rock anymore, but when he looked at her face she wasn't looking back.
"Er, Mom," Jon spoke up, "are you staring at my boobs?"
