"Jon?"
The boy looked up. "Yeah, Mom?"
"Er, nothing" said his mother. Whew, she thought, it worked. "I just wanted to tell you that dinner's just about ready."
"Sure, Mom. Karyn can eat with us, right?"
"Of course, how many times have I not let her?"
A few minutes later, the new Jon, Jen, and Karyn were sitting at the table. There were five plates. "Who's the other plate for?" asked Jen.
"It was supposed to be for Zoe," said his mother, "but she's late." She yelled upstairs, "Zoe! Dinner's ready! Now where did that girl go to?"
"Zoe?" asked Jen with bemusement. "Is she someone from work, Mom?"
"What?" replied her mother. "Zoe, your sister."
"Mom?" asked Jen. "What are you talking about? Unless she's been turned into a guy, I don't have a sister. I have a brother."
"B-- but...." Jen's mother was confused, until it occurred to her: Jen could have guessed right. She had wished for Jen to have a brother who was like the old Jon. Of course the stone would take the path of least resistance and turn Zoe into Jon.
"You used the stone, didn't you?" asked Jen.
