Roy said, "Two tickets for the movie."
The 'Uptown' was a restored old theatre dating originally from the 40's. The whole area had undergone a massive urban renewal phase a few years back and the theatre had been refurbished to period looks with state of the art picture and sound. The best part was it still had a huge single screen. With only one screen, it specialized in period films and the occasional foreign film not carried in the regular theatres.
"I've never heard of this movie." Jennifer commented.
"I haven't actually seen it yet, but it's supposed to be a classic. It's black and white ..."
"Black and White? You've got to be kidding!"
"Well is was made in 1940. It stars 'Mary Astor', 'John Hubbard', 'Carole Landis', and 'Adolphe Menjou'. It's based on a book written in 1931 by 'Thorne Smith'. I hope you like it. It's funny, but the story is sort of out-there even by today's standards, or rather especially by today's standards. In many ways we seem to have become more prudish and less open minded in the past several decades.
"I hate to sound shallow Roy, but 'TURNABOUT'? That sounds like some kind of old political documentary."
"Ha, that's funny! No it's actually a comedy about a husband and wife that have their bodies magically switched with each other and are forced to experience life from the other side."
"A magical gender change movie?" Jennifer exclaimed.
"Yeah I know, it's crazy and impossible, but doesn't it make you wonder what it might be like to be the other gender? Can you imagine yourself as a guy all of a sudden? What would you dread? What would you want to try?"
