Just then, Jon's mother called to him from the house, "Jon, there's someone on the phone for you!"
Jon went back inside and took the receiver from his mom. "Producers," she whispered to her son as she handed it over.
"Er, hello?" Jon spoke into the phone.
"Jon, baby! It's Steve here," the voice on the other end said. The male voice spoke with extreme confidence. "It's just me and the guys at Reali-TV here calling to let you know how much we're enjoying your show!"
"...Show?"
"Yeah baby, it's hot stuff! Our ratings are super high right now, and the network is very impressed with you! I know I've said it before, but why not? Congrats, kid, you're a star!"
"Er, thanks," Jon replied. He didn't have a clue what this Steve guy was talking about, but it made him pretty nervous. He thought it best to try and finish this conversation quickly and then get to the bottom of things. He added, "Is that all?"
"Actually, there is one more thing, Jon. If it's okay with you, we were wondering if it would be okay for you could come into the studio today, so we could talk about your show's future. Of course, if you're not available that's fine, we can always reschedule!"
Jon detected a hint of nervousness behind this guy's charismatic voice, just like how his dad had alked to him earlier. But curiosity got the better of him, Jon wondered how he'd become a celebrity, and what kind of show it was he apparently starred in.
"Nah, that's fine. I'll see you later," Jon said.
"Great stuff! See ya!" Steve said as he hung up the phone.
Jon's mother, who'd been standing there the whole time, asked, "What did they want, Jon?"
"Um... Steve wants me to visit the studio to talk about the show."
"Oh, that's good! Well then, I'll just go and get your father to drive you over there!"
As Jon's mother went to fetch his dad, Jon looked over at the TV remote. Tentatively, he picked it up and aimed it at the TV.
Flicking through the channels, he came to a channel which showed some guy doing nothing but standing in the middle of his living room staring at his TV. A ticker ran across the bottom of the screen, recapping recent events in the show...
... best friend Karyn into a blond airhead ... boobs ... exclusive ... fixed the family car ... brand new ... watch it here first! ... live TV ... 24 hours a day ... only on Jon's World! The Way He Wants It! ...
As Jon's eyes scanned the messages, he suddenly realised the guy on TV was him, in his living room, right now! Looking up, he saw the miniature camera, perched on top the bookshelf to his right!
"What the," Jon muttered to himself, which the TV clearly repeated after a 3-second delay. It was then that Jon noticed he was wearing a microphone attached to his shirt collar.
Jon was amazed. He was a star of a reality TV show! Now he was being filmed live, 24 hours a day! It looked like they'd given him a whole channel of his own on cable too, so people could watch him all the time!!
That's how everyone now knows about my power, he thought. I'm famous! A famous TV star! _Wow!!
