Juanita O'Dare watched as the girls in her phys ed class finished changing into their gym outfits and going outside. She was not surprised to see that the last straggling student was Meg.
"Meg!" barked Coach O'Dare. "Get your butt out there by the time I count 10 or you'll do an extra 100 sit-ups!"
Meg acted as if someone had set off a firecracker behind her and ran toward the door. But, before she could get out, Coach O'Dare finished her count.
"Meg!" said the Coach in her usual bullying fashion. "I swear, you're part snail!"
Meg got outside and walked listlessly to where the rest of the girls were waiting. She knew Coach O'Dare would make her do the sit-ups in front of the rest of the class. There was nothing to do but wait for her to come out and bark orders at her.
A minute passed. Five minutes. And Coach O'Dare still hadn't come out onto the track.
"I'll see what's keeping her," said Wendy Barrison, one of the group leaders. She walked to the door everyone had just come out of, went in -- and screamed.
