Lisa felt pity for "James". It wasn't his fault. She was a little skeved out by him and wondered if the original Lisa felt that way about him before their switch. She didn't think so. She doubted they would have stayed friends if they had, but it was still a disturbing thought.
She stepped forward then paused. She wanted to console James, but felt an instinctive revulsion at the idea of touching him. It was a very strange feeling. It left her feeling guilty over her attitude, but it also served to distance herself from the identity of James. In the end she settled for patting his hand, "James," he looked at her, "you have to stay positive. I wasn't a pervert and I managed to get along with women just fine." She decided not to mention how long it had been since 'james' had been on a date. "You're still adjusting." This seemed to cheer James up until he absorbed the time implications. He wasn't changing back.
"You don't think she's coming back. Do you?" he asked. He slumped in his seat. He looked like he had been punched.
Lisa shook her head, "that's not what I am saying." She tapped his hand to get him to focus on her. He glanced at her boobs again, but it seemed more reflex than anything else. Lisa coughed and his eyes snapped back to her face. "What I am saying, is that you have to take control of yourself. She may come back tonight, or never. Either way you have to live your life." James grimaced at the word never, but he seemed calmer.
"What should I do?" he asked. "I mean right now?"
Lisa said. "I can't answer that for you, but as for my purposes. Just stay here. Do nothing to attract attention. If she reaches out to you, tell her that I haven't been by yet. Give me a call after you talk to her." Lisa didn't mention that she could access his phone records. Better to hold an ace in reserve if he confessed to Shannon.
James didn't say anything, but he nodded jerkily.
"I'm going to go. I'll let you know if I learn anything." Lisa said. She stood up and turned and walked quickly to the door and out of the apartment not looking back. She walked straight to the staircase and started down. She didn't want to wait for the elevator and her paranoia was now fully engaged. The elevators had security cameras, the stairs didn't. she started down the stairs and grimaced. Her chest bounced hard enough to be painful so once again she grabbed her tits through her shirt as she jogged downstairs. The hand bra was embarrassing, but fortunately she was alone.
She reached the ground floor and bypassed the lobby. She continued down to the basement and headed out the side door. This left her at the bottom of a retaining wall with another staircase that took her to the parking lot. It was a roundabout path, but she wasn't likely to meet anyone. She took the stairs two at a time, yet again resorting to the hand bra. She made a mental note to never again leave the house without a bra.
She cleared the top step and walked to her car. She was nervous and her head kept darting around looking for people, but she was alone. She climbed into the car and put her hands on the wheel. She just sat there for a moment and thought about what James had said.
There was a part of her that was overjoyed. Shannon intended to leave her as Lisa. Jack was hers forever. She wanted to drive back to their house and forget all of this had happened. But as she thought about it, she realized she couldn't do that. Shannon was out of control. Things had ended (fingers crossed) well for Lisa, but James was a basket case. She didn't know what was planned for Joe, but she doubted it was anything good. Besides, she still wanted to have it out with Shannon.
She started the car. She didn't drive anywhere though. She didn't know where to go. She knew very little about joe, not even where he lived. "That medallion must do more than just change your body" James had said. Lisa remember the flashes of memories she had gotten over the last day and decided to try an experiment. She focused her thoughts like she had before and repeated to herself over and over, I'm driving over to Joe's for a quickie she felt guilty at the thought of cheating on Jack, but consoled herself that it wasn't real. She tried that for a few minutes without success. no! it has to be real. I have to think its real. Or its never going to work. she pictured the rondevous with Joe again, but this time she wallowed in her guilt. She thought about the problems "she" and Jack were having; how Joe didn't matter. How part of her wished she would get caught, just so she could use it against jack. She was building up a good head of self loathing-when she got a flash. It wasn't enough to tell where Joe's house was but she knew the general direction to drive.
She pulled out of the parking lot and felt a subtle pressure to turn left. She made the turn and drove toward the freeway. She didn't know whether to go north or south, but as she passed the southbound entrance that same pressure pushed her onwards. She turned onto the northbound entrance and felt a momentary relief. I hope this keeps up long enough for me to get there she thought. She shifted with practiced ease as she merged with the traffic.
She tried to keep her mind blank, but still pay attention to the road. It was surprisingly exhausting. She was about ten minutes into her trip when her phone started ringing. She clicked the answer tab without looking at the screen she put the phone to her ear and gasped when she heard who it was.
