“...they pulled you both out of the chemistry lab! Hell, most of the town was, considering how big the explosion was. Thank goodness everyone came out okay… or alive at least.” Zoe gave Jon a look around Karyn. “You guys didn't hit it this morning, did you?”
Jon shook his head at the suggestion. “No! No, just… woke up weird.”
“Uh-huh. Just make sure you spray everything down before you leave in the morning, Mom would be pissed if she caught you again.”
When he was satisfied she was done, Jon pulled out his phone, and typed out a text before holding it in Karyn’s view. “Think rock messed up timeline. Don't want 2 make Zoe sus, looking up town history. Wanna see?”
Karyn subconsciously moved her body forward to grab it and type, until her situation clicked again. Sighing, she nodded.
Jon’s search proved edifying for them both. The first result explained Zoe’s comment- while the explosion hadn't killed anyone, it did seem to cause some rather unusual events. Everyone in their class had ended up either fused to someone else, or rearranged in stranger and stranger fashion. Karyn, as it turned out, had gotten lucky- many of their classmates were just misplaced faces on their new hosts. Fortunately everyone still remained mentally intact, but several students were considered invalid until circumstances changed.
