"Oh, come on, you know I'm better at making wishes than you," said DeMorrell. "You're going to make a mistake if you just do it. Let me try first. I wish that you'll go into labor and have your baby before dinner, that the labor will go as well as possible and the baby is healthy, will be as loyal to me as you are, and will grow up smart and strong. And I wish that Jonnie will be able to have sex with me right after the birth."
Jonnie smiled. She could see the mistake in that wish. As loyal as Jonnie was--which is to say, not at all. DeMorrell's wish wasn't a real problem at all (at least not a new real problem). Only... wait a minute...
"You don't need that," said DeMorrell. "I wished it solved."
"No, you didn't," said Jonnie. "Please, I need the stone."
"All right," said DeMorrell, and handed it over.
"I wish," said Jonnie, "that 'as loyal' in that wish just means the baby thinks like me, not that it's sexually attracted to the people I am."
DeMorrell blinked. "You mean I forgot to say that... Jonnie! What I almost did.... You're wonderful, you know." He kissed her on the cheek and reached for the stone again.
Which isn't what Jonnie wanted. She had the stone. She didn't want DeMorrell to take it--she should just get away from him. But while she'd have to get rid of him eventually, it couldn't hurt to wait a little while, to wait for the birth. Sex right after birth was normally not possible, but the wish had taken care of that. She wanted to let him satisfy her just once more. Maybe after that, she could help her grandfather, take down DeMorrell's crime empire, return to being male....
Until Jonni had a contraction, and in surprise let go of the stone.
