While Jon is amusing himself in the shower with Sarah's body, Karyn, as stated earlier, decides to make a phone call. She pulls out Matt's cell phone that was in his back pocket of his board shorts, opens it, and stares at it for a while trying to decipher how to use this particular model. She gets distracted as she sees her huge male hands and looks closer at her bitten fingernails, hang nails, and hairy knuckles. She makes a face and shakes her head in disgust.
She dials her home number to let her family know what's going on. No one answers the phone and decides that either everyone's sleeping, or don't recognize the foreign number on the Caller ID.
Karyn begins leaving a message. "Hi. It's me, Karyn. Anyone up? I'm at "
Her message is abruptly cut off as her mother picks up on the other side. "Karyn? Where are you? Look at the time! Do you not know how late it is? Is the party over yet or not?"
"Uh yes and no? "
"What? We've been worried sick about you! We tried calling you several times and you didn't answer your cell phone! Did it die or something? Whose phone are you calling on?"
"It's a friend's phone, Mom. Sorry. Please calm down. There was a slight problem with the swapper they were using at Ted's party. I'm at Jon's house right now "
"Karyn. Tomorrow's a school day! You'd better come on home right now!"
"Mom, we're still kind of sorting this out, so "
"Wait "“ did you say your friends were fooling around with a swapper? Karyn, haven't we told you that those things are dangerous? Don't you watch those public safety announcements on TV?"
"There are public safety announcements about swappers?" asks Karyn to herself. She begins rubbing her arm nervously then feels her bicep and admires the size of it.
"You are in a heap of trouble when you get home, missy!"
"Mom, we're still sorting this out. Is it okay if I stay at Jon's tonight? I promise I'll come home tomorrow morning and go to school!"
"I'd rather you come home, but I guess it's okay if Jon's mother says it's all right. But after school tomorrow, your father and I are having a serious discussion with you and we'll discuss your punishment!"
Karyn sighs and shuts the phone. The night is getting progressively worse. What could possibly happen next?
