Flipping the box open, a shower of confetti poured out, the stone sitting in a nest of the remaining confetti.
What the hell thought Jon, inspecting one of the flecks of yellowed paper, finding a cursive J written on one side. "Oh crap, grandpa's letter!"
This was just a distraction, once he'd fixed his earlier wish the letter being shredded wouldn't be an issue.
Pinching into the box, he plucked out the stone and held it in his palm, but it felt different. Flipping it over, he saw half of it was now missing, the new flat side featuring an ornate zig-zag spiral groove.
"This better still work" he whispered, clutching his hand around the stone.

Before he knew it he was making a wish, though the though of the damaged stone was in the front of his mind.
"I wish I had the other half of the wishing stone here" he spoke.
He looked around, "Nothing...", the stone hadn't granted the wish. "Let's try something more simple".
"I wish there was a fancy pen on my desk", but again, nothing happened.
"Crap..." he groaned, trying to think of what he could do.

Dropping the stone back into the box and brushing the confettied letter into a neat pile, Jon's eyes fell upon the photo Karyn had given him. It was from the SETA Racers tournament the arcade had held two years ago, where he had unexpectedly set the record high score.
The photo had changed however, where it was just Jon holding up a cheesy oversized medal with Karyn standing beside him, Ashley was now standing to the other side of him, her arm around his shoulder.
"Didn't think this stupid half-swap would-" he paused, eyes going wide. "Half-swap! of course!"
He snapped his fingers, the realisation hitting him like a lightning bolt. It swapped the bottom half, so Ashley would have the other side of the stone, he reasoned.

Sliding out his desk chair he plopped himself down, booting up his pc and logging into Chaos Chat Client, and starting a group chat with Karyn and, thanks to the nicknames feature, Ashley.

Jon_Boy: @Ash-Raven @BlackKnightK
BlackKnightK: wuts up?
Jon_Boy: can we meet up at your house Ash
Jon_Boy: it's important
BlackKnightK: oh i see ;)
Ash-Raven: uh ok i guess
Ash-Raven: but it'll need to be after dinner
Ash-Raven: so come about 6 k?
Jon_Boy: cool thanks Ash
BlackKnightK: see ya later guys

Reclining in his chair, he glanced over at his alarm clock, 3:25PM, couple of hours to kill he sighed.
