Ten minutes had passed with no sight of Karyn, the cafeteria was now filling up, it wasn't like her to be late to lunch.
Jon decided to make a start on his meal, but as the minutes rolled by he was growing more concerned at the possible changes his wish had caused.
20 more minutes had passed by, Jon had long finished his lunch and was sipping at the flat tasteless cola.
Where the heck could she have gotten to? he pondered, scouting his vision around the room for her.
Another 10 minutes, at this rate lunch would be over before she arrived. As he prepared to leave and search for Karyn, he saw her come through the doorway.
Waving her over, she skipped to the table and took a seat.
"Someone's late" said Jon
"Late? I've not been that lon-WOAH" Karyn gasped, checking her cellphone. "Sorry Jon-boy, was catching up with Ash, guess we lost track of time"
"Ash?" replied Jon, "Who's Ash?"
"Seriously Jon, y'know, Ashley Gibson" Jon's eyes went wide. "We've been friends since forever"
"Oh crap..." mumbled Jon
"What? you didn't make some dumb wish that made you forget our best friend did you?"
"I... I..." Jon just stared right through Karyn, trying to process what she'd just told him.
"Jon? Jon, you're starting to scare me, what did you do?"
"Karyn I... accidentally made a wish earlier" mumbled Jon, looking down at the table. "Ashley wasn't even our friend until second period..."
"Well for accidental wishes, that's not a bad one." smiled Karyn, nudging Jon's shoulder.
"That's not what the wish was..." mumbled Jon
"Then what was the wish?"
Jon buried is face in his hands and let out a sigh. Standing up, he walked around the table to Karyn's side.
"Notice anything different about me?" he said, gesturing his hands out in an upside down V shape.
Karyn looked Jon up and down. "Same old Jon, I like the skirt by the way." she replied.
"Karyn, think about what you just said, did any of it seem weird?" asked Jon, returning his arms to his sides.
Karyn shrugged, "You look like you always do, Jon-boy. Just tell me what you wished for"
"Karyn I" Jon paused, returning to his seat. "I'm a boy, why would I be wearing tights and a skirt?"
"Because they look cute on you?" reasoned Karyn
"No, because I'm not all me"
"Jon, please, can you stop with the guessing games and just tell me what you did?"
Jon sighed, "Fine, but promise me you won't laugh"
Karyn smiled and gave a thumbs-up.
"So we were in biology" Jon began, "I had completed my half of the project weeks ago, and Ashley hadn't even started"
Karyn nodded, though confused, the Ashley she knew wasn't the slacker type.
"She turns to me and asks if I want to swap which half of the project we were working on." Jon paused, and nervously cleared his throat.
"I was going to mumble something about her trying to steal my work, but I only got as far as saying something about how she wishes we'd swap bottom half and-"
"You didn't" Karyn grinned.
Jon nodded dejectedly, "Luckily she didn't hear me or-"
Karyn started giggling
"You promised you wouldn't laugh!" grumbled Jon.
"Hey I never said I promised" Karyn held her hands up, still giggling. "Wow Jon-boy, you really did a number on yourself with that wish, I mean compared to yours, my wish is a walk in the park."
"Karyn please, I've been stuck like this for 3 hours, I'm already embarrassed enough"
Karyn managed to fight away her laughing, "Well why haven't you tried to fix it, you've got the stone"
"No, Karyn, that's the problem, after I made the wish it disappeared", Jon mumbled.
The grin dropped from Karyn's face, "Shit, is it in your locker? No, you would've already checked, maybe it's back at your house"
"I hope so" whimpered Jon
"We've still not told Ash about it, and she didn't mention anything about a magic stone to me earlier."
Jon raised his head, "It's gotta be at my house then!" he beamed, Finally some potential good luck
BRRRRRIIIINNNGGGG
"Ah crap, I missed lunch" cursed Karyn, "You owe me for it later, Jon-boy"
"Fine, as soon as I fix this I'll wish you up a buffet"
"Now you're talking" smiled Karyn, "I'll catch you after dinner then"
Before Jon could reply, Karyn was already dashing off out the cafeteria.
"Just 2 more hours Jon, you can manage that"
