After Abigail had left, Jon had finally had an opportunity to actually think things through.
He certainly didn’t make this girl a part of his family.
And apparently, noone else in the house could be part of the hat-game since Jon had already been chosen.
And didn’t Zoe mention only people from school had put their name into the hat?
So someone from his school, had -for some reason- invented Abigail. And maybe with the goal of turning whoever she used to be into his girlfriend.
Why?
Well she obviously had a pretty crummy personality.
So probably revenge of some sort.
But why him? Why Jon?
True, he really would have liked a girlfriend but he hadn’t actually complained about his love life to anyone. And he didn’t really have a lot of friends who might go out of their way to set him up with a girlfriend.
Mark? Mark always got way too intense for his own good, when he even suspected a girl might like him. It was one of the reasons why getting him and Karyn into the same room together, wasn’t really a recipe for a good time. If it had been Mark behind this Abigail would be rooming at Marks house.
Karyn? Jons heart sank as he thought about it. It would make sense. Maybe she had picked up on Jons crush, and this was her way of heading off a really awkward conversation: Offering Abigail as a consolation prize.
No. Jon tried to convince himself. It wasn’t really Karyns’ style.
Who else was there? Leonard? He was more Karyns friend than Jons. Was he trying to get rid of a potential rival for Karyns’ affection?
Jons musings were interrupted by the door to Zoes room cracking open, and his siter poking her head outside. “I heard voices.” She muttered, then her eyes fell on the strip of paper in Jons hand “So did you already wish for something?” she asked, looking suddenly more awake.
“No.” Jon answered.
“Ah come on! If it were me that bitch would already be hopping around looking for a prince with kissable lips. ”
“Well as it turns out life hates me.” Jon said sullenly “Abigail found out I drew Sarahs name.”
“Yeah.” Zoe said ” At dinner yesterday. So what? She hates that snob nearly as much as I do.”
“Abigail didn’t exist until yesterday.” Jon said, keeping his voice low ” She used to be someone else. And whoever she used to be just threatened to tell Biff who was messing with his girlfriend.”
Zoe blinked, then winced in sympathy “Ouch.” After a moment she opened the door fully and spread her arms “Do you need a hug?” she offered awkwardly.
“What?” For a moment Jon thought Zoe might have been changed by a wish too. When all was said and done Jon and Zoe got along fine, but the sister he knew didn’t do touchy-feely. “Errr, thanks but.. No thanks.”
“Gee! No need to look so shocked.” Zoe groused “I’m not a total bitch you know. Even a blind man would have seen the sparks flying between the two of you.” But she looked relieved nonetheless as she let her arms sink again.
“Well. Life just hates me I guess.” Jon said, sharper than he had intended. “Because the new Abigail acts like one of Sarahs cronies.”
“Do you want to talk about it?”
“No.”
“Well, uhm, take care then.” When Jon didn`t react, his sister left retreated back into her room after giving her brother one last sympathetic glance.
