When Nathan Duncan got to school early that morning, the school was already abuzz with what Zoe and her cronies had done over the weekend. How they had set up the Goths to get them arrested on drug charges and how it had all blown up in their faces after that airhead Zelda Corinth had spilled all the beans. Usually, Nathan wasn't interested in gossip and scandals, but he had to admit, this situation caught his interest, if maybe just a bit.
Walking down the hall to his locker, Nathan suddenly got shoved, falling to the floor. He wasn't badly hurt, but that wasn't the point. He turned and glared at Steve Meadows, a jock and bully who liked to impose his "superiority" on the "losers" of the school. And that apparently included Nathan.
"Oops," Steve said, not meaning it. Then he laughed, walking away.
Nathan stood up and dusted himself off. Recently, he had found evidence that Steve was the product of an elicit affair, involving Mrs. Meadows and Mr. Freeman, but he wanted to release that information (which was retrieved through some very remarkable hacking on Nathan's part - Jayne Whitefield would be proud) at the right time, when he was in a lot of trouble with Steve. It wasn't time yet. But it made him feel good knowing that he had something to hold over Steve, something to make the bully leave him alone for good. If it ever got out that his mother had an affair ... it would destroy him and his family, not to mention the Freeman family.
When Nathan finally got to his locker, someone was waiting for him there. It was his good friend Susan Leeson. She was nerdy and shy and didn't focus too much on her looks, but she had a great mind ... something Nathan appreciated in a girl.
Unknown to Nathan, his friend used to be Kyla Leeson, but the former Susan McMillan had taken her place. And now Kyla was walking through the streets of town in search of a new identity.
