They left Mikey's bedroom and heard laughter from downstairs. Richy, Karyn and Athena must have still been eating dinner. Or by now, dessert.
This made things easier. At least they didn't have to go looking for her.
They walked down the stairs slowly, as to not attract attention. Mikey didn't want Athena to know what they were doing until it was done. Then, Mikey crept up towards Athena from behind, meaning to slip the necklace over her head. But before he could, she suddenly moved, throwing off his concentration. He tripped on the rug and the necklace flew out of his hands and landed on the table.
"Mikey!" Richy yelled. "Is this yours?"
Mikey stood up and looked at Richy with wide eyes. Partially because Richy was no longer really Richy anymore. This new woman had Richy's face, but the rest of her was completely different, completely female. The other reason Mikey's eyes went wide was that Richy (or was it Rachel now, or something similar?) was holding up the pendant in her hand.
"Please, put it down ... uh ... Mom." It still seemed weird saying that, but at least now Richy looked like the part.
"Where did you get that from?" Karyn asked. "Can I see it?" She reached out for it.
"No!" Mikey yelled.
"Mikey!" his new mother yelled. "Behave yourself."
Mikey intended for Athena to wear the necklace. He had no idea what would happen if Richy or Karyn wore it instead.
