As usual, Athena was at the end of the lunch line. But that gave her more time to talk with her friends.
She looked at Jon. It had been almost three hours since she saw him last, back in her first period class. He looked a lot different. He still had his own face, his own chest, and (by judging the small bulge beneath his skirt) his own sex organs. But he now had a feminine frame, giving him the general look of a girl, especially with his long hair. He looked a little younger. And his skin was pale white, like Zoe's used to be. And speaking of Zoe, Athena saw her on the way to lunch. Everything about her looked the same, except for one important detail: she was black. It was so weird to see.
"So, are you going to Trevor's party this weekend?" Jon asked.
"What?" Athena asked, getting broken out of her thoughts.
"What's up with you today? It's like your mind is somewhere else," Jon said.
Not my mind, she thought. "I'm just tired."
Jon shrugged his shoulders, then they moved a little further up the lunch line.
