The new Zoe didn't want to return to being a little kid. She felt so much freer as an older person, she could think much more clearly... and of course girls, which were a mystery to her as Mikey, suddenly didn't seem so mysterious any more. Since she used to be too young to really like girls, it hardly bothered her that she was now expected to like boys--it's not as if she was working against an old orientation.
But even though she was a version of Zoe now, she didn't know all that much about her life. She hadn't really lived it. The stone could be used to gain memories of that life, but there was another way.
"I wish that Jon is now my twin sister Gina. I wish that Gina will be willing to teach me anything I want to know about being a girl or about my life and it would never occur to her that my questions are strange or that I should already know the answers."
The room Zoe was in changed. It was no longer Jon's room, not really. In fact, it was only half of a room. There used to be a wall between Zoe's room and Jon's. Now there was no wall--both rooms had become a single room twice the size. There were two beds, and the whole thing now looked like Zoe's room looked a few minutes ago. It seems that "Zoe" and her twin sister Gina lived in a double room.
She looked around the room for some pictures and found several, depicting herself as Zoe, and another, similar looking, girl. It was hard to tell them apart, but possible by carefully paying attention to hair and a few other cues. The other similar girl was also in some pictures with Karyn. So Gina must still be friends with Karyn like Jon was.
Now she just had to wait for Gina. She should be home any minute....
