"Okay," said Jane. "Here's the plan."
Jessie and Karyn listened.
"First of all, I add something saying I can reverse this whenever I want to. No sense in making a mistake I can't fix."
"Gotcha," said Jessie.
"Then, I wish that I'm a teenage guy and Jessie is someone else. The best I can think of is that she becomes my sister. Hmm, but I also need to go with the whole 'one son' thing."
"I have an idea, Mom," said Jessie.
"What is it?" replied Jane.
"You turn Mikey into a girl. That way you can still be a boy, and there's only one."
"Hmm. I guess that would work. Okay, change that. I have to wish that I'm a teenage boy, Jessie is my sister, and my younger brother Mikey is my younger sister Marie. Jessie, you don't want me to wipe your memory. I don't understand it, since your memory right now isn't real either, but if you don't want me to wipe it, I won't. But you'll have to have at least a little bit of new memory just so you can get along without looking silly."
"Sure, Mom," said Jane's daughter.
"I wish that this all happened, including the part about being reversible."
Miraculously, Jane was now her original age as Jon. Karyn was still there, and Jane's daughter... in this reality she was Jon's sister, but she still remembered a whole life as Jane's daughter. "Weird, Mom. You're a guy."
"I was always like this," said Jon. "Even your original memories are just from a wish. You're just a year younger than me now. And don't call me 'Mom' even if you started out with me that way, okay, Jessie?"
Jon went out into the hall and glanced into the living room. His brother wasn't there, but there was a girl who looked a lot like him. So it seemed to have worked....
