"Well, then," said Mikey, "I wish that you could teleport milk and cookies to me, but that this wish wouldn't let you teleport anything other than milk and cookies. I know what you're doing! You want to teleport the stone back!"
Jon sighed. "Mikey, you think you're so smart, but you're just a kid."
Jon concentrated, and suddenly Mikey's lungs were filled with milk. Mikey gasped and choked, coughing up a lot of the milk... which Jon teleported back into his lungs.
"Mikey, I want my stone, now, or else I choke you to death. If your body's close enough that I can pick up the stone after that, I might even wish you back to life."
Mikey continued to choke, unable to breathe, let alone speak any wishes, with Jon making sure that any attempt to cough the milk out of his lungs proved useless. As Mikey turned blue, he finally tossed the rock over to Jon and collapsed.
The rock landed close enough to Jon that he picked it up and made his wishes. "First, I wish that Mikey was alive and well, but asleep." Mikey's skin was no longer bluish and he began to snore. "Now I wish that Mikey would completely forget about the stone and all wishes he made with it. I wish I was back in my own room...."
Instantly Jon found himself standing near his bed. But when he experimentally tried to walk or sit down, he found that some unseen force was holding him in place. The wish that he stand still had not stopped.
Jon wasn't sure exactly how to work around that wish. It was such a short wish--"I wish you'd stand still." But finally, an idea occurred to him.
"I wish that Mikey's wish wouldn't work because I'll turn into a different person who isn't the 'you' he was talking about, but I'd stay in this family, I'd keep my own memory, Karyn would still know I'm Jon, and yet I'd have enough memories of this new person to know how to act."
Jon felt his body transform, and moving his feet, found that he was no longer forced to stand still. He vaguely noticed his room changing as reality altered so that he had always been this new person. Examining his new memories and glancing in a mirror he realized that he was....
