Sally woke up after just a few hours of sleep. She was too excited waiting for her children to wake up into their new lives as each other.
Jake as Emily was the first to rise. Fixing breakfast in the kitchen, Sally heard a series of thumps from Jake's room above her, and then Emily's normally sweet voice emit, "What the fuck? What the FUCK?"
Grinning, Sally made her way up to Jake's room and knocked on the door.
"G-go away!" came Emily's voice.
"Honey, it's Mom. I know you're in shock. Let me in."
There was a series of delightfully soft footsteps and then the door opened. There stood Jake in nothing but his boxers and Emily's body. He was bare-chested, wide-eyed and terrified.
"Y-you know?" said Jake.
Sally smiled. "Yes, dear. I turned you into Emily and Emily into you."
Her daughterized son's jaw moved but made no sound for several seconds. "H-how ... why ..."
"The how is a secret. The why is that you and your sister are always fighting and give me no peace. So for the rest of this school year, you're going to be Emily and she's going to be you."
"The rest of this -- but that's like eight months!"
Sally nodded. "Yes, it is. Until June, you're Emily Witherspoon. And yes, you're being punished for your behavior, so I'm going to expect you to behave like a girl if you want to be Jake again."
"But Mom, why --"
"Because I said so. You need to see what life is like for girls when boys act the way you do. You are EMILY now, is that clear? You will wear skirts, you will use makeup, and yes, you will date boys."
"That's not fair!"
"No, it's not, but being a girl is always unfair. I'm going to expect your sister to learn to be a boy, but you're right -- it's going to be harder for you."
The new Emily looked at her mother in despair. "Mom, I don't know what to do. I feel helpless."
Sally smiled again. "Welcome to being a girl, honey."
