"Wait!" Karyn yelled, as loud as she could. Jon's mother glared at her. She was clearly ticked off that Karyn interrupted her. "Jon didn't invite me over. I followed him home!"
"And why exactly would you do that?" Jon's mother snapped at her.
"Because Jon's been acting weird all week. I wanted to see why he was always rushing home. I even worried that he might be on drugs. But I guess he wasn't the one I should have been worrying about."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"I should have worried about you. What happened to you? You've always been so nice. Now you're more like an evil stepmother."
"How dare you come into my house and say these things to me. I never knew you were such a little brat," Jon's mother said. "Maybe I should teach you a lesson too."
"Mom, please don't," Jon murmured. Karyn had never seen her friend so beaten down and docile.
"You shut your mouth!" she yelled at her son. Jon shut up immediately and lowered his head in defeat.
Whatever was going on here wasn't normal. That was for sure. Karyn wasn't sure how, but she knew the stone had something to do with this. If only she had it with her, she could use it to fix Jon's "new" mother. She'd be doing everyone a favor.
