Meanwhile, Jon had taken a seat at his mother's desk at the office with a cup of coffee and began going through the day's workload. He began typing documents with his long painted fingernails as he awlays had, stopping every now and then to take another sip of coffee. After a while, someone approached his cubicle. It was Linda's best friend, Beth Walters.
"Morning, Linda," Beth said.
"Morning, Beth. How was your weekend?"
"Same old same old. You know, weed the garden, drive the kids around. You?"
"Same here. Say, that's a nice blouse," Jon said. "Where'd you get it?"
"Oh, Birchman's," Beth replied. "They're having a sale, it was really a steal."
"I'll have to check it out then. I could use some new outfits. What do you say we hit up the mall this Friday. Just us girls."
"Sounds great, I'll tell Susan, too."
"Oh, is she back from the Bahamas?" Jon asked.
"Yeah, her plane came in last night. I am so jealous of her tan."
"And her rich, handsome husband!" Beth and Jon chuckled at this, and they spotted Susan coming around the corner. She smiled as she approached the two, but her smile quickly turned to a look of confusion.
"Morning, Susan," Jon said.
"Jon? Linda's son Jon? What in the world are you doing here? And why in God's name are you wearing your mother's clothes?"
"What are you talking about, Susan?" Jon said. "I'm not Jon. These are my clothes. Why, I wore this same outfit two weeks ago, remember?"
"Is this some kind of joke? What's going on here?" Susan was looking more and more confused.
"Are you feeling alright, Susan?" Beth asked. "Maybe you picked up a bug on your vacation. Why don't you go sit down for a little while."
"But... but..." Beth guided Susan back to her cubicle, and Jon turned around to get back to work. That woman, he thouhgt. Thinking I'm my own son. What's gotten into her? At that moment, Jon felt yet another feeling of strangeness pass over him...
Linda finally met up with Karyn at the high school.
"Hey Jon," Karyn said, "I got your message. How did Mikey get the rock?"
"What rock?"
"C'mon Jon, don't play around. The wishing rock."
"Wishing rock?"
"Uh oh. Mikey must have changed your memories so you'd forget about the wishing rock."
"Karyn, what are you talking about. You know wishes aren't real. C'mon, let's get to class."
"Wait. Not until I figure out what's going on." Karyn started walking out of the high school, towards Mikey's middle school. She had to find out what was going on. Linda could only follow out of curiosity.
