"JON! Hurry up and get breakfast, you'll miss your bus!"
Linda groggily climbed out of bed and trudged across the hall to take a shower. She then wrapped a towel around her waist and went back to Jon's room to get dressed, deciding to throw on yesterday's jeans and a grungy t-shirt. Within eight minutes, she was in the kitchen munching on a pop-tart. Mikey was there too, with a bowl of oatmeal. "So Jon," Mikey said with a smirk, "How's your girlfriend Karyn." When Mikey said this, she suddenly had a strange feeling. Linda was about to say something, when Jon entered the room.
He was wearing makeup, but wasn't yet dressed and was instead wearing a pink bathrobe and fuzzy slippers. Jon refilled his cup of coffee and started reading the newspaper.
"Geez mom," Linda said, "It's 7:30 AM, how long have you been up?"
"Oh, about an hour," Jon said. "Unlike you, I take the time to be presentable for the day." Linda grunted at this, then looked at the clock.
"Okay mom, gotta go." Linda and Mikey both got up and headed for the door.
"Hold it boys." Linda and Mikey froze in there tracks. "I think you're forgetting something," Jon said. He walked over to them and gave them both a hug and kissed them on the cheek. Both "boys" cringed, especially Mikey who realized that it was his brother kissing him. They turned and headed out the door.
Mikey breathed a sigh of relief for once about going to school. He had the rock in his pocket, and was ready for anything. Except for what was about to happen next. About a block away from his house, Linda tackled Mikey. He struggled, but his mother seemed stronger than he imagined. Once pinned to the ground, the tirade began.
"Alright you little asswipe, where is it!" Linda shouted gruffly.
"W-w-what?" Mikey asked, genuinely frightened.
"Don't play stupid with me. Where is my rock?! You have no idea what it could do."
If Mikey hadn't been pinned to the ground, he would have laughed at that statement. Trembling, his hand moved toward his pocket...
Meanwhile, Jon continued getting ready for work. He settled on a simple pinstriped skirt suit with a lavender blouse, and black pumps. Once dressed, he was ready to go. He quickly cleaned up the kitchen, then hopped into the car and drove to work. As he drove, he felt strange again. Almost as though he should be going someplace else. At a stoplight, he took a quick inventory. Hmmm... no lipstick on the teeth, mascara isn't smudged, no runs in the pantyhose... everythings fine. Maybe it's menopause? No, I'm not that old yet. Jon shrugged it off, though he still felt uneasy, and made his way to the office.
