"I'm really... really a girl," said Mikey.
"Nobody ever told me about that," said Jon.
"It's the truth," said their mother. "Mikey was born a girl, but we decided to raise her as a boy, and it turned out she really liked being a boy. But I think you should know. She's your sister, after all!"
"So is Mikey going to start wearing dresses?" asked Jon.
"She can wear whatever she wants. Jon, you shouldn't tell this to anyone else. As far as everyone else knows, Mikey is still a boy. But sooner or later she's going to start developing and people will find out."
"I can't believe it," said Jon. "My little brother was really a girl all along!"
"I'm not a girl," said Mikey. "It was that dumb stone!"
"Don't talk nonsense to your brother," said their mother. She left, saying "Kids, you really should get along better."
Jon's mother might have thought that was nonsense, but Jon himself knew exactly what that meant. Mikey had stolen the stone and accidentally changed himself into a girl. Now Jon had the stone back.
"This all happened because you stole my stuff, you know," said Jon. "So you're a girl. Amazing."
"I'm not really a girl," said Mikey. "It's all magic! Come on, give me the stone to change me back."
"I'm not giving you this," said Jon.
"Well, change me back then!"
"I'm not going to change you back, either. First, you can't reverse wishes. And second, you've gone too far. Stealing candy is one thing. But stealing the stone... that stone is more valuable than Fort Knox, or the Hope Diamond. This isn't just a little theft! It's a very, very, big thing. Stealing a car would be less of a crime than stealing this stone."
"I didn't steal it, now change me back!"
"You might not have known, but you certainly stole it. And when you did find out, and you decided to keep it anyway, now that really is stealing. You need to learn that, which is why I'm keeping you a girl in disguise for a while. In fact, I wish that you...."
