It happened so fast, that at first, Mikey didn't notice. He was just glad that Gina's hand stopped before she got the teacher's attention. It wasn't until a few seconds later, that he realized that Gina's hand wasn't the only thing that had stopped.
The girl wasn't moving at all. Her face was turned to the front of the class, and her lips were parted slightly, just about to call out to Ms. Warren. Mikey just stared at her for almost a full minute. Gina didn't even blink. In fact, he couldn't be sure if she was even breathing.
Mikey had gotten his wish. Gina was being still. Very still.
Suddenly, Ms. Warren's voice came from the front of the classroom, pulling Mikey's attention away from the frozen girl next to him. "Okay, class. Who can tell me how limestone is formed?"
The teacher's eyes roamed the room, until they spotted Gina sitting with her hand slightly raised. Ms. Warren smiled. "Okay, Gina. You tell the class." She waited, but the girl didn't say a word. She just continued to stare at the teacher with her hand in the air. "Gina?" Ms. Warren called again. Still no response. "Gina, are you okay?" When the girl still failed to answer, the teacher headed down the aisle.
Mikey was in a panic. He couldn't let the teacher find Gina in her unmoving condition. What was he going to do? Again, without thinking, he said, "I wish..."
