" ... a little kid!"
Deborah Ruth Trier Donaldson changed, but not in the way Mikey had wanted her to. Instead of turning his mother into a little girl, she had turned into a little goat! Mikey remembered that baby goats were also called kids. He stared at the goat that was his parent, and turned away, scared about what to do next.
And then he saw the statue that was Karyn. He gasped, covering his mouth with his hand, and then quickly said "Turn into Karyn!"
The statue turned flesh and blood, staggered for a moment, and then Karyn grabbed Mikey, putting her hand over his mouth.
"What was that for?" she said, angrily.
"Ididnmeanto!" said Mikey through her hand. "Iwznaccidnt!"
A bleat interrupted them. Karyn looked at the little goat, which was now chewing on the clothing it had worn a moment ago.
"I had to do it," said Mikey. "She was going to ... "
" ... spank you," said Karyn. "I heard. I remember."
"You do? You remember what happened while you changed?"
"Both as the statue and the drinking fountain."
"Karyn, I'm sorry I turned you into a statue. I said something my Dad used to say about people he liked, that they were solid, like ... "
"A rock?" said Karyn. She didn't want Mikey saying it in case it changed her again.
"Yeah. I guess I really gotta be careful what I say."
"I think you'd better not say anything without thinking it over carefully first."
"But what will we do about my Mom?" asked Mikey. "If she remembers what I did to her -- unless ... "
"Mikey, you've got to change her back."
"I know. I'm just trying to think how to say it."
"Just say 'Mom, change back.'"
"I've gotta say more and see if it works."
"If what works."
Mikey faced the little goat and said "Be my Mom without remembering what happened since a minute before you came out of the house."
A moment later, Deb Donaldson was on all fours, chewing on her blouse. She was also stark naked.
That made Mikey nearly forget -- did she still remember what happened to her?
