In the dark of the night a man ran in terror through the countryside. How could this have happened to him.

He ducked into a wet drainage ditch, his laptop safe in a waterpoof case. To avoid being spotted by the helicopter that flew low over him, shining its spotlight into the ditch. If the air surveilance doesn't find him the men with dogs would.

As he hid, holding his breath, he stopped to think of how he got into this.

It all started when he was sent a sample of an old stone in the mail from a colleague who unearthed it in South America. It's silicate matrix had an unusual make up and he tried to use a sample to make a unique silicon chip to use as a processor for his computer graphics editing program.

As the spotlight left the water he surfaced, gasping for breath. He ran again, dodging from shadow to shadow, bush to bush, but was still lost in thought.

Somehow the materials properties were more unique than he thought. It edited not the pictures but the subject itself. Somehow the chip altered the program and through it altered reality itself.

When the government found out they wanted to use it. He couldn't let politicians get their hands on it. They could use it for war, or worse yet to rule the world.

He declined and they tried to force the data from him... he took the laptop and silicon wafers that were left of the stone (thankfully only one was made into a chip) and fled. He then dispersed the program online, the progperties that made it able to alter reality somehow went from the chip to the program itself. Hopefully if it ended up going to a random computer someone responsible will get it and the government wouldn't get their hands on it. He kept his laptop with him anyways so no one could get at the data to make another one.

He stopped beside a tree to catch his breath and then heard the click of a gun being cocked. He felt the cold barrel against his head and heard a voice say "hand it over! NOW!"

Thankfully he had one more trick up his sleeve and this one was of limited uses. He had a silicon wafer made from that stone held firmly between his fingers. "I wish you'd BURN!" he said.

The gunman dropped his gun and dropped to the ground screaming as he burst in flames. The programs creator felt the silicon wafer crumble to dust, he should be more careful, he doesn't have many of them left.

He almost wished he didn't cut up the original stone, when he wished he knew what was going on he learned that the stone he made the chip from was a wishing stone of sorts and now that it is cut up it cannot be put back together and the slices had very very very limited range and could not survive granting a wish.
