She decided to check the websites of the local DVD and game stores in her area, perhaps she could find something in their stock that her little brother would like. Freddie had very childish tastes, she thought, he's really into cartoons and comics and violence. Typical boy.
Sarah sat down at the computer in her room and entered Internet Explorer. She loaded up Google and punched in the names of the video game and comic shops she knew of at the mall, to see if they had their own websites.
As Sarah browsed the internet for her brother's present, she was confronted by a weird pop-up ad. The background of the po-up window was in fact a grainy video of herself staring at the screen.
"What the?" Sarah started, then realised the ad must be working through her own webcam, mounted on top of her monitor.
"That's weird," she muttered, and saw her lips move on the screen in real time, "I've never seen one that could do that before..."
To be safe, Sarah closed the ad immediately. Unfortunately this caused another identical pop-up to spawn immediately. It was then that Sarah noticed the text, in a small black font, superimposed over the video. It was difficult to read over the moving image, but Sarah recognised a link marked 'Cancel' and clicked on that. The pop-up now closed, but it also prompted her browser to download an unknown program.
"Oh crap, crap!" she cried out and tried to cancel the auto-installer, but it wouldn't quit. "Oh please no, don't infect my PC!"
The uninvited program finished installation and launched, filling Sarah's monitor screen. What she saw was...
