As Karyn peered over his shoulder, Jon carefully opened the book to discover the pages were empty!
"It's blank!" Jon cried. "So this was some dumb joke!"
"No joke," the old man wagged his finger. "Turn to today's date."
Confused, Jon did so. He flicked to the beginning of the book. The diary started with January 2011, but seemed to continue on for several years. There were no entries under any of the dates, until Jon reached late October. There, under the current date, was a single note. It read:
I bought this diary today.
"So it is your book," the old man grinned. He added, in a solemn tone, "That much has been written for you. The rest is for you to decide."
"How do you mean?" Jon asked.
The shopkeeper sighed. "Youth, always wanting all the answers right away. Use this diary, write in it, and you will find out for yourself."
