The old man had stopped at a wall of shelves filled with boxes. He bent down and pulled out a large cardboard box from the bottom shelf and turned toward Jon and Karyn.
"Go ahead, open it." Jon and Karyn looked at each other, waiting for the other to make a move.
"Oh, okay," Karyn said as she stepped forward and opened the flaps, expecting to see something patently bizarre.
"Wigs?" Karyn asked, clearly not surprised.
"What?" Jon said.
"It's full of wigs."
"What can we do with a box of wigs?"
"Ah, these wigs are quite special. Believe me, you'll have a whole new perspective once you try them out. I'll let you have the whole box for twenty dollars, and if you're not happy you can keep the wigs and I'll give you your money back."
Karyn was a bit skeptical, but it did sound like a good deal. A wig is a good place to start for a costume. Still, there was something odd about the way the old man said "perspective".
"Why such a deal?" She asked.
"To be honest I'm trying to clear up some space. I have some more... ah... valuable shipments coming in."
"What do you think, Jon?" Karyn asked.
"It's worth a shot, I guess."
"Okay, we'll take it." They followed the old man and the box to the register at the front of the store. Karyn pulled a ten dollar bill from her purse and handed it to the man. After a second, she looked at Jon who had a concerned look on his face.
"What?" Karyn said.
"Um, I forgot to bring any cash. I'll pay you back, promise."
Karyn rolled her eyes. "You owe me," she said as she handed the man another ten from her purse.
Before long, they had the box open on the floor of Jon's living room. Nobody would be home for a while, so they had some time to try things out.
