The three of them sat silently in Jon's room somewhat dejected.
DTH Karyn had tried to comfort the other Karyn but nothing seemed to brighten her mood. She had stopped crying but now they both just sat there staring into space.
Jon had been looking through as many of the red timelines as he could but there was nothing on the screen to indicate the other Jon's destination. It was just lines and numbers. He had tried to count them but it was hopeless there was already over 30 non-sequiturs created from the ARD. Those 30 had created nearly 200 divergences and that number was steadily rising as his alternate selves travelled into the future. Searching systematically wouldn't work. Even if they only had to spend an hour in each divergence and allowing for sleep it would still take weeks. By the time they searched them all, another thousand could exist. If they did investigate good candidates, it would only compound the problem because each visit would create a new divergence. It was quite simply a task that could never be completed.
He was practically daydreaming when the DTH beeped loudly at him.
"What's that?" DTH Karyn asked.
"A notification apparently." he replied.
"The DTH can send notifications?"
"This isn't just some factory assembled piece of electronics you know. This is a highly sophisticated machine. I'm sure notifications are probably one of it's most basic functions."
"Okay so what is the notification?"
"Something weird is going on with one of the ARD non-sequitur divergences."
Karyn got up to look at the screen.
"The end of that red line is black, what does that mean?" she asked while following the pattern on the display.
"A DTH created the divergence. Look at the adjacent timeline." he told her pointing at the screen.
"It's looping inwards like the petals of a flower, I thought it just showed straight lines."
"It should only show straight lines."
The other Karyn recognised the sound of hope in their voices. She jumped up.
"Do you think Jon's there? Could you get him?" she asked excited.
"I'm not going to the flower place. I'm not even sure causality is working properly there. It would be too risky." he told her
"Oh..." she sat back down.
"That adjacent divergence might provide answers though."
"Are we going?" DTH Karyn asked.
"Well it sure beats hanging around here."
