"You have brown hair."
"But that's already a lie," replied Jon. "My hair is blonde!"
Karyn realized, then, that the bracelet did all it was supposed to, and told Jon, "That's because the bracelet made you think it was supposed to be that way."
Since that instantly became false, Jon replied "What? No, I don't think it's supposed to be that way."
Karyn was a little confused, but continued the explanation. "Your hair used to be brown, but when I said it was, that changed its color."
"That isn't true either," said Jon, as those statements became false. "My hair used to be red, and when you said it was brown, that didn't change its color at all."
And, Karyn noticed belatedly, Jon's hair was red. Karyn realized that it must be a lot easier to accidentally set off a liar's bracelet than a truth bracelet. People constantly say true things all the time. "I get it," she said.
Unfortunately for her, as soon as she said that, she didn't get it. In fact, she had no idea at all why the bracelet was doing so many strange things. "Wait a minute. I don't know why I said that, but..."
This set off the bracelet again, as that became a lie, so she did know why she said that. She was about to say "I see" as the knowledge filled her head, but stopped herself just in time. "This is dangerous," she said. "We have to be very careful what we say or risk changing things..."
The bracelet immediately glowed cherry red, and felt warm on Karyn's arm, though fortunately not in the hundreds of degrees as its color might suggest. It seemed to twist, and vibrate, until it finally stopped. The magic necessary to make Karyn's statements false was enormous.
But at least, now, the bracelet wasn't dangerous and they did not have to be careful what they said....
