"Yeah. Well, I guess we make a wish for something and I can grant it, what do you think, Karyn?"

"Okay, why don't you go first?" Karyn replied.

"No, I don't think it works that way. You remember what the guy in the shop said? Only other people's wishes are being granted not my own. You should try to wish something. Start simple."

"Ok. I wish my shirt was black."

As soon as Karyn finished her wish I felt the skull getting warm meaning it heard the wish.

I looked at my shirt. Where one it was blue now it was snow-white, as if it was taken straight form a bleach commercial.

"Ok, so something happened..." Karyn stated the obvious. "But not quite what I wished for... I mean I can understand that it changed your shirt instead of mine because you are the one wearing the medallion - all the wishes apply to you. But I clearly said that I want the shirt to be black not white."

That was really strange. Why would the skull do that?

"Karyn, please wish you knew why the skull behaves like this." I asked

"I wish I knew why the medallion changed the shirt white instead of black" she wished.

I waited but nothing happened. I could see form Karyn's face that she didn't learn anything either.

Then it struck me.

"What about this?" I asked "Wish that you didn't know anything about skull's weird behavior!"

"O-ok..." Karyn was hesitant. Apparently she didn't suspect what I suspected already... "I wish I didn't know why the medallion changed the shirt white instead of black."

As soon as she finished wishing I felt information flooding my head.

Apparently the reason why the skull was sold so cheaply was because a couple of days ago it fell and broke. It didn't simply grant wishes but granted their opposites. If the wish was simple it would just contradict it. That meant that all the do's became don't's, will's became won't', should's became shouldn't's and so on and vice versa.
If the wish wasn't that simple the skull just made sure that it's interpreted as something completely opposite from the subject of the wish. That makes any 'short' be changed into 'tall', 'grow' into 'shrink', 'stronger' into 'weaker', 'feminine into 'masculine' et cetera.

I explained this to Karyn briefly and she was just about to comment on that but we both overhear a scrap of a conversation from some people passing by...
