As Scott stood in place trying to comprehend what had just happened, the air around her seemed to sparkle for a moment.
When it stopped, she gasped in astonishment. She still remembered everything, but she also had a second set of memories to match her new form. She remembered how in grade school mean old Ralph would pull her tail when the teacher wasn't looking. She remembered how some of the kids would tease her, calling her "fuzz-butt" and "kitty litter". She also remembered the first time she kissed a boy, how fantastic it felt when Robbie had wrapped her tail around his waist, wrapped his arms around her, and made her feel safer than she'd ever felt...
A knock at the door broke her reminiscence. To her horror, the door immediately opened and her mother came in, seeing everything!
"Oh, I'm sorry hon, I didn't realize you were changing," her mother said, "Your father forgot his wallet again. As long as we were home I just wanted to remind you not to stay up all night. You've got a doctor's appointment tomorrow morning. You know how hard it is to get on their schedule!"
Scott was dumbfounded that her mother had seen the changes and seemed not to notice anything out of the ordinary.
"Um... okay," she replied.
As her parents left again, Scott tried to understand everything that had happened.
"So, I guess that when the medallion changes you," she thought, "everyone else thinks that's the way things have always been. Heck, if it weren't for the fact that I remember how things were before, with these new memories I'd even think this is the way things have always been!"
With her new memories had come a lot more comfort with her new form, but one thing still had her thinking: was her appointment at a doctor, or was it at a vet?
