Jon opened the door to his room holding two cans of generic store-brand cola. Sarah gagged internally, but kept up her cloying smile for Jon. Store-brand? At least shell out for RC, Sarah thought to herself.
But Sarah wasn't there for fancy-pants Coke or Pepsi. She was there to see what happened when Jon reached over to offer her a can, and her fingers grazed across his in the transfer.
Electricity.
Nothing huge. Slightly less than a static shock. But Sarah could feel it, a little bit of energy jumping between the two teenagers. She took the can-- ugh, it wasn't even refrigerated! Warm generic cola? What was wrong with this kid.
Whatever. She took the can and looked up at the dork. He was wearing lip gloss. Sarah subconsciously ran her tongue over her own lips, tasting what was probably an identical layer of sparkly gel to what Jon was now wearing. She stole a glance around the room and saw a few tubes sitting on Jon's nightstand: she recognized the brands as the same ones she usually bought.
Nice.
"So the test," Sarah said through a practiced smile as she brought her attention back to Jon, "is on Jacqueline Kennedy."
"Okay," Jon snapped open his can of soda, "let's start with basic groundwork: Wikipedia can give us a general idea."
The boy sat down in front of his computer and pulled up the internet's very own Free Encyclopedia, not quite noticing the fact that his companion, in the guise of getting a good view of the computer monitor, was surreptitiously putting her hand on his forearm.
"You know," Jon turned to Sarah, "Jackie Kennedy was one of the most fashionable historical figures of the 20th century."
Sarah took a sip of her own lukewarm generic soda and smiled. This was going well.
