Fortunately for Jon, reversible transformations on oneself only didn't count as especially irresponsible all by themselves, and most of them were Karyn's suggestion anyway. Unfortunately, carelessly transforming still shows carelessness. Fortunately, just altering other people's minds to forget the wish didn't count as irresponsible, as long as Jon knew what he was doing--it wasn't about the abuse of power kind of irresponsibility. Unfortunately, Jon didn't always realize what he was doing....
At any rate, Jon, not being one of the people who really wants to turn himself into a girl, decided to reverse the transformation. Then it occurred to him. "Wait a minute. That might not work."
"What might not work?" asked Karyn.
"I want to change back into myself. But you said that turning into you should last a day. So can I change it? Maybe I can't, because you said a day and it's going to stay a day. On the other hand, maybe I can reverse the "day" part like I can reverse anything else--sure, that means it won't be true any more, but isn't reversing any statement going to make a truth into a lie?"
"So...?"
"So, Karyn, you only gave me what's basically three wishes, like a genie. I don't want to waste them. Would you mind trying and seeing if you can reverse something with a time limit?"
Karyn thought. "If nobody notices you've changed, I wonder what that means... do they think you're my twin, or just someone who looks the same by coincidence? Or do people not even notice you look like me in the first place?"
"Please, just do it!"
"Oh, fine. You're a guy."
Jon didn't change back. "I guess that answers that," she said. "All right, let me think about the truth thing.... I've got it! Truth: My family and I are rich, for legitimate reasons--not because they're criminals or hookers or anything like that."
"Figures," said Karyn. "You're no fun at all... uh, in a manner of speaking, that is, you're not really no fun at all literally."
"Look at it this way," said Jon. "I have three wishes. If I want to be smart, the first thing I should do is wish for things that only wishes can give you. The next wish is resurrections. You know, my grandfather died less than a year ago. I haven't figured out the third one."
"But I," said Karyn, "have more than three. I can do this as much as I want without worrying about wasting anything. And I think I'll try something...."
