“Of course I screamed.” Sarah replied. “I look like a guy!” Suzan looked at her daughter confused.
“Well, of course, you look like that honey. That’s the way you always dress.” Now it was Sarah’s turn to look confused.
What did her mom mean? That was the way she normally dressed? So did everybody think that she dressed like her boyfriend?
“But mom. Don’t you think that it’s weird that a girl is dressed like a guy?” Suzan looked thoughtful for a moment but then shook her head.
“No, sorry honey. Like I said, that’s how you always dress. Are you feeling alright?” Suzan placed her hand on her daughter’s forehead. “You don’t have a fever or anything?”
“Mom!” Sarah said raising her and pushing her mother away. “You don’t get it, do you?” She shook her head. “I’m a girl. A cheerleader! I should be wearing dresses and make-up not tank tops and playing football.”
To her surprise, her mom laughed. Sarah glared at her causing her mother to cover her mouth.
“I’m sorry honey, but in the past you’ve usually scoffed at anything remotely girly. That’s why I stopped taking you to the spa when you were younger.”
Sarah just stood there and stared at her mom.
