Jon looked down and saw that he had dropped the bracelet. He scanned the floor for it, then spotted it. But before he could get to it, someone else picked it up. It was Wallace Richardson, one of the biggest nerds at Jon's school.
Without even thinking about it, he was compelled to slip it on his wrist.
Karyn was shocked. But Jon didn't know why. As far as he knew, the bracelet didn't do anything. It was just a piece of jewelry.
Karyn ran over to him and started yelling at him. "Wallace! That's my bracelet. Give it back to me!"
"Why? I found it."
"That's because I dropped it."
"Oh. Okay." Wallace tried to take the bracelet off, but it wouldn't budge. "This is weird. It's stuck."
"Here, let me help you," Karyn raised her hands toward the bracelet to help pull it off. But Wallace pulled away.
"No, I've got it." After a few seconds, he stopped. "Why do you want this thing anyway? It looks pretty cheap."
"I can't tell you."
"Sure you can."
"I know I can," Karyn said, being affected by the bracelet. "It's a magic bracelet. When you're wearing the bracelet, whatever you say becomes the truth."
"Really?" Wallace didn't believe in magic. Only in science. But still, if a thing ever did exist, he could possibly be the most powerful person around. He could change things the way he wanted.
He looked up at Karyn and said "..."
