FYI you can use stuff like the 'Typio' extension that will try and save text input from browser crashes. That or just type everything in word/Google docs and then copy and paste it over.

On Picking up Gary

Ah you beat me to it! I was going to add to this episode today. Honestly, the first half was pretty similar to what I was thinking anyway; so my addition probably isn’t advancing the story too much. Either way, thank you for contributing to my branch! Or our branch now, as it seems.

On Picking up Gary

Time travel is the solution for lots of things. "Oh, no, I made a wish to change the sun and it was a special time when the wish range was bigger than normal so I can't do it for another six months". Travel back in time to when it happened and make the wish to change it.

And any wish that "can't be reversed" can be reversed by travelling back in time to just before the wish was made, and making your new wish the one that came first and can't be reversed.

By Hikaru - 2021-06-11 16:21:34

On Universe's End solution?

Well, in order to reach the actual source of the problem, Jon and Karyn would have to not only travel back in time two billion years, but also a place two billion light years from Earth. The way I understand it, the alien civilization that created the universe-destroying weapon was most likely the first to be destroyed by it, so traveling to their home world in the present day is out of the question - it was destroyed two billion years ago. Nothing's left but a void in which nothing could survive.

Wishing to time travel first would also present its problems, as what would one day become the Earth we know might not be easily survivable. Of course our protagonists don't really have much to lose at this point. They're in a situation that's way over the Godzilla Threshold (the term TV Tropes gives to a situation so dire that anything that might help solve it, no matter how dangerous, crazy, or bizarre - is called for because things are so bad that these things really wouldn't make the situation worse. Our protagonists literally have nothing to lose.

In the next episode, Zoe has an idea, even though she suggests it sarcastically. But would everyone go along with it? Unlikely. In any case, saving the world (or at least its population) is not going to be an easy task, given what we've already established. It will require clear-headed thinking, ideas bounced around, and taking risks. Among other things.

On Jon decides to tell Karyn

I was thinking a great direction to go would be for the stone to have JUST enough power to send them back in time to the time and place of the incident, and give them the chance to stop it. Naturally the stone would be totally burnt out, giving half way wishes on the fumes of magic after such a feat. (And Jon and Karyn would have to assume the form of the world they travel to.) Maybe the stone can still give them just enough wishes for a final few TF's necessary to carry out their mission.

By avatar Perri - 2021-06-10 18:48:36

On Jon decides to tell Karyn

Well, if this would be my story, I'd make Jon and Karyn look for more ancient artifacts containing "some" power and merge them with the stone to power it up. The more artifacts are integrated into the stone, the more "chaotic" the wishes become, but the stone also becomes more powerful. Maybe the saving wish restores the universe and destroys the death-bubble, but the alien lifeforms brought back are also in chaotic form, like planets full with DnD races suddenly, slime-people, etc. etc.

On Emit's dragon.

This episode was hard to write. It's one thing writing an episode that recaps things that happened ten or more previous episodes ago, but it's another to have to recap things that were established only one or two episodes ago. It can lead to things seeming a bit repetitive. But due to the nature of this episode (it being mostly about Jon telling Karyn what he himself just learned), it's kind of unavoidable.

Well, the deck seems stacked against them. I do have some ideas for what comes next, though, as well as a possible way to save humanity. But of course it won't be easy or quick. The whole point of this branch seems to be that there are some situations that not even the magic wishing stone can provide an easy fix for, so one just has to look for some way to try to salvage things while still acknowledging the limits of the stone's power.

I know that in other branches, Jon or other characters have successfully wished away the stone's range limitation, but I always felt that was a bit too easy. We of course know there has to be a reason Jon's grandfather didn't do this: Either he felt it was better that the stone DID have a range limitation, or he DID try but found he couldn't increase the range that way. In any case, I feel it works for THIS particular branch that increasing the stone's limitation requires jumping through more hoops (metaphorically speaking) AND requires more time than our protagonists have.

Wow. This has to be the darkest, bleakest premise I've seen in YAWYW. It's not surprising no one has added to it, including the original author

However, the situation isn't completely hopeless. There might be SOME way around it. Some way not mentioned in the episode above. I have a few ideas, and I'm thinking of adding on to this one.

On The Destruction of the Universe

Something I noticed I did accidentally in this branch, Karyn used possessives to talk about what is now her penis way sooner than Jon did the same about his vagina, I've leaned into that since I noticed, basically Karyn is supposed to be not entirely aware, but she doesn't want to go back, she likes having a dick and feeling like shes in the dominant position sexuallly. She's even liking being into boobs. Also after a little while she'll realize she just likes the way it feels to have a dick and balls down there even when she's not aroused.

(Random note: Jon's old/Karyn's current penis is in the 95th percentile of girth an 98th of length! It big!)

If I never get back to this one thing I was thinking they might do is each in turn spends like 5 minutes as a "version of their body that is as physically attractive as possible to the other". While changed Karyn would get slightly bigger boobs, wider hips, a bit more butt, a bit more curve in general and her skin would be a bit nicer and it would try to put her hair back to red, fail, and settle on strawberry blonde. Jon would get slightly broader shoulders, a bit more muscle definition on his arms and legs, nicer skin too, and MASSIVE boobs, like bigger than his head, basketballs, and maybe he would also get hips and butt. Karyn would be very embarrassed by her new preference for huge boobs.

Alternatively they might have a conversation about undoing Karyn's mistake wish, Karyn would bring up that she doesn't want to end up with smaller boobs than Jon... and she doesn't really want to make his any smaller, also internal monologue from her with conflicted feelings about boobs, the annoyances of having big ones and the fact that she is now very into them. Being a horny late teen this would be a big deal, much tension! (She'd feel "un-womaned" if his boobs were bigger!)

@Alojz, so I've got a medium-term vision of where I want this train to go, probably around the next 5 chapters. Without giving too much away, the last chapter I have planned out will be the next chapter to feature a third character in addition to Jon and Sarah. After that point, jump in as you please. Before then I'd just ask not to add to the most recent episode, but branching from anything earlier won't affect what I'm doing.

On All Girl Now

Oh yeah, I can totally take on the chapter where Jon acquires Sue's attitude to her own femininity. That said, I'd be keen to still have several episodes of him to setting up some more "perks"/"traps" for his future life, while wondering if he should or shouldn't go for it. Personally I have two in mind I've been thinking about for a while now that I wouldn't like us to miss!

I mean, at the least, he might have made sure that Sue's not attracted to women but he's not specified anything about his attraction to men so that would need to be taken care of. I'm pretty keen for scheduling that transition to happen a little after David has returned home. It would let us have both some juicy awkward time when his husband appears home while Jon is still as attracted to him as he would be as a boy. And then I'd love to have an episode dedicated to him just anxiously counting down the seconds until Sue's heterosexuality and appreciation of her life partner kicks in, with it hitting him like a bag of bricks.

I'm actually a big fan of both where you've been taking Mandatory MILF and Sarah Simulator. For Simulator I think you've done a bang up job in painting the image of someone trapped in that specific kind of video game as that specific avatar, and am mostly curious where you're taking it since its hard to conceptualize where it goes next (which I suppose is part of the problem!) after Jon escapes the menu.

For Mandatory MILF I just love the whole unique scenario and everything that's come from it. I'd suggest either following up with the Boss route and wishing for the next step after becoming a CEO, wishing or driving to an office setting to properly leverage the behavior compulsions. Or following up on the living clothes branch where the clothes have been granted communication, playing off of the new character there and how their intentions differ from Jon's even though he's responsible for them having them.

Speculating on how social media is effected by the stone's magic and the range limitation is something that only occasionally comes up in in Fiction Branches. Some others have similarly noted that people's social media accounts wouldn't change when people are changed by the stone, so I thought I'd do this little take on that premise here. A lot has changed online since Fiction Branches and You Are What You WIsh began, and more recent episodes reflect such changes.
