“So, you must be Jade’s date,” Sami, Jade’s mother, said as she looked Ash up and down.

“Um, yes. I’m Ash,” she replied, gulping a little as she extended her arm out. Sami shook it. Ash hadn’t expected Jade’s mother to be so…stern.

“So what makes you different from all the other girls that Jade has dated?”

All the other girls? How many did that mean? Although, Ash supposed, since Jade was head cheerleader, and as hot as he was, he would go out on quite a lot of dates.

“Well...um, ma’am, I’m currently on the basketball team.” Sami raised her eyebrows.

“A basketball player, eh? What position?”

“Point guard.” Ash replied bluntly. As Sami grilled the girl, a man who Ash supposed was Jade’s father came down the stairs.

“Oh, Sami. Stop scaring the girl and let her in!” Sami grunted and stepped aside. “I’m sorry about her,” the man said as he greeted Ash. “She’s just a little overprotective of her boys.”

Ash nodded. “I can understand that, sir.”

He laughed. “Please, sir makes me feel so old. Call me Rubi.”

“Alright.”

“And you’ve already met my wife, Sami.” Ash nodded in Sami’s direction. “Jade’s just finishing getting ready. He won’t be too long. Would you like a drink?”

Ash nodded. “Just a glass of water, please.”

Rubi nodded and gestured to the living room. “Please take a seat...and Sami? Try not to be too hard on her.”

After Rubi had brought Ash a drink, he sat down and got to know Ash, but not as harshly as his wife. They talked about school and her family. They were interrupted when a boy came into the room. This must be one of Jade’s siblings, Ash thought.

“May I introduce...Jade Duncan!” he called out rather proudly, curtseying as he did so. A few moments later, everyone in the room gasped as Jade stepped in. Ash’s jaw dropped.

Jade looked gorgeous. His blonde hair fell gently over his left shoulder. The dress that he wore was amazing. It was a short black dress with a strap going over one shoulder; the skirt was ruffled, and he wore matching black heels.

“Wow!” That was all that Ash could say as Jade walked over to him beaming with pride.

“Hi.” Jade said with a little giggle.

“Hi.” Ash replied back, still staring. “You look amazing.” Jade blushed.

“Thanks.” Ash shook her head trying to focus. She handed him the flowers that he had brought.

“Um, these are for you.” Jade giggled again as he took the flowers. He took a sniff of them before handing them over to his dad.

“I’m sorry, but can I take a picture?” Rubi asked, putting the flowers down and taking his phone out of his purse. “You two look so cute together.”

Ash looked at Jade, who nodded. “Um, sure.” They posed together a couple of times as Rubi took the pictures. When he was finally done, Ash took Jade’s arm and then led him out of the house.

“I want him home by 11, Ash,” Sami called out to her in a loud voice.

“Oh, Sami, stop,” Rubi said, rolling his eyes.

“It’s alright.” Ash replied. With that, they said goodbye and Ash led Jade to her car, where she held the door open for him as Jade slid in, being careful not to get his dress tangled.
