As we were walking toward the actual temple with our guide, Billy walked very closely by my side as if he knew of my secret agreement with the Aztec family.
"So, how did you convince them to help us?" Billy whispered.
"I just listened to them talk about their struggles and they trusted me." I replied at the same volume.
"Really? I stayed in their home for days and they never gave me any sort of lead as to where I might find this artifact. They did finally give me a location so as to quench my thirst, but there was nothing there when I went to look. I basically made up the location of this trip so as to hopefully gain a little bit of trust from them. Apparently, you were able to do that Glenn."
"I still don't quite trust them, though, even after their heartfelt story."
"If you don't trust them, then I won't. I wouldn't want anything to get in between our friendship."
I was quite confused by both Billy's and Bartholomew's reaction toward me. Had they known something that I didn't? Perhaps there is a mystery to unlock and I look like the man who can solve it.
As we came to what looked like claw marks in the trees the guide stopped us. He pointed to the markings and said, "This is as far as I can take you, due to the stone's killing range." He pointed toward a clearing in the forest, "There is where you will find the temple. Be warned though, even those we have sent before you have fallen to the temple's various traps."
This for some reason felt strangely familiar, almost as if out of an Indiana Jones movie. I hope there isn't any poisonous snakes or spiders. I hate spiders.
