Jon took the stone out of his pocket. But before he could use it, Athena slapped it out of his hands.
"What did you do that for?!" Jon yelled, before falling to the ground to try to find where the stone landed.
"The stone won't work right when it's close to another artifact. Remember?"
"I don't care! I need to get Karyn back!"
Athena grabbed Jon's shoulder and pulled him around. "You may make things worse."
Jon's eyes burned. "Get your hand off me."
Athena complied, but told him again to not use the stone.
But Jon wasn't listening. He only had one thing on his mind and that was getting his friend back.
And when he finally found it in the grass, he made a wish. "I wish Karyn was back." Nothing happened. "I wish Karyn was here." Nothing happened. "Damn it!" he yelled, stomping up and down.
"Jon," Athena said.
He turned towards her. "What?!" he shouted at her.
"You're making a scene."
Jon stopped and looked around. A couple of kids on skateboards and a few neighbors were staring at him.
He took a breath and tried to settle himself down. All he had to do was get far enough away from the gemstone and the stone would work for sure. Karyn wouldn't be lost for long.
But before he did that, he needed to do something else - what they came there to do in the first place.
He walked up to Sarah's front door and pounded on it.
