The door swung open, showing the two who were in the closet. They were Sarah McMillan and Karyn!
"You're the spies?!" Jon yelled out in shock, causing Sarah to pull him into the closet with them and shutting the door behind him.
"Keep your voice down, you idiot," Sarah said.
"Karyn, I ... when did you become a spy?" he asked. He never thought that the stone would make his best friend one of the spies.
"Over three years ago."
"That can't be," Jon said. "There was no indication."
"I'm very good."
Jon was so focused on the fact that his best friend was a spy that he totally blocked out the fact that Sarah McMillan was also a spy. And judging from the conversation he overheard, they were much more than just professional partners.
"Our whole mission is ruined. No one was supposed to know about us," Sarah said, in a very un-Sarah-like worried tone. Her usual sense of power and authority had vanished.
"It's not ruined. We'll just fill him in on what we're doing. Maybe he could help."
"He's a civilian, Laura."
"Laura?" Jon asked. "Karyn isn't even your real name?"
Karyn (or rather Laura) sighed. It looked as if she had a lot of explaining to do.
