Karyn now looked like a grown woman, old enough to be her mother. Except she didn't resemble Karyn as much as she did ... Sarah McMillan.
"What ... what's happened to me?" Karyn asked. "Why did my other self wish THIS?"
"We could always ask the stone." Jon said, picking up the stone.
Holding the wishing stone, Jon said "I wish Karyn I knew just what Karyn's other self wished before we wished ourselves into the bodies of our counterparts from this reality."
And instantly, they both knew.
"I ... I got mad over how mean Sarah was that day." Karyn said, hesitantly. "I ... my other self ... said 'I wish I was Sarah's mother. I wouldn't let her get away with half the crap her real mother lets her get away with', while holding the stone. Next thing we knew, Sarah was asking what her mother was doing on the school grounds, and we ... our other selves ... had to make up some story."
"But ... if you're Sarah's mother now, then what happened to the REAL Mrs. McMillan?" Jon asked. "Did you ... merge with her? Did she turn into Karyn? What happened?"
"I guess we can ask the stone again." Karyn said, with a shudder. "I don't know if I really want to be Sarah's mother."
