The moment Jon made his wish, not only his world, but his whole universe changed drastically. Somewhere, far from where Jon sat staring at the magical stone in his hand, somewhere that was completely unreachable by normal people, a group of...beings would be the best thing to call them, stood around an orb, and they watched Jon.
"So...he wants something interesting to happen, hm?" One asked the others. "Is an object that is capable of doing nearly anything in his world not interesting enough?"
"You must admit, he seems to have fallen into something of a routine." Another said. "We've watched him go down numerous paths. They mainly end up going down the same few paths over and over again."
"True." A third figure spoke. "What fun is a game when you can so easily predict the outcome of the turns?"
"What can be done? He has been chosen as the pawn. We've tried so many things. We've given others magical objects. We've had his friends, family, and foes steal the stone from him. We've even gotten demons, Gods, and angels from his world's religions involved."
"Perhaps it is the pawn that needs to be changed?" the third figure offered.
"We've altered his default form before. Made him look different, started him as a woman..."
"What if...we place his mind into anothers body?" the second asked. "Cut him off from the stone?"
"And what of his body?" The first asked. "Leave the others mind in it?"
"No. Just overwrite another's personality with Jon's." The second said. "Allow his form to act an normal. There would essentially be two Jon's, though one would be in another body."
"Who could we swap him with?" The third asked.
"Karyn needs to be ruled out." the first said. "It would be far too easy for him to obtain the stone in her form."
"Not true. You can both sense it, I'm sure. Jon's faith in his friend has been shaken by her foolish wish. He's been wondering if she can be trusted with the stone. We could use that fact to keep the stone just out of his reach." the second said.
The other two figures looked at each other, and after a moment, nodded.
The second nodded as well. "It's decided then. When Jon awakens tomorrow, he shall find himself in another's body, with his own acting as it should. Now, who to switch him into?"
